Resources to support OHS Induction in the Construction Industry
All people who work in the construction industry need an induction to Occupational Health and Safety before they can commence on a work site. All construction workers have a role to play in making sure that people are safe at work.
The model National Workforce Health and Safety Legislation, Regulations and Codes of Practice have come into operation with transitional arrangements in New South Wales, Queensland, Australian Capital Territory and the Northern Territory as of January 2012.
The Harmonisation reforms are yet come into operation in Victoria, Western Australia, South Australia and Tasmania.
For those working in the construction industry in Victoria, Western Australia, South Australia and Tasmania:
• CPSISC’s pocket-book designed to assist workers in the Construction Industry who have varying levels of literacy skills to participate in general OHS induction training is still current. This training is underpinned by the National Code of Practice for Induction for Construction Work (Australian Safety and Compensation Council 2007).
For those working in the construction industry in New South Wales, Queensland, Australian Capital Territory and the Northern Territory:
• CPSISC is currently reviewing the WHS units across CPC08 Construction, Plumbing and Services Training Package and CPP07 Property Services Training Package to recognise the harmonisation reforms. As a component of the review of the WHS units CPSISC is also updating resource materials including the pocket book for working in the construction Industry in NSW, Qld, ACT and NT.
