CPSISC recently completed a project to develop qualifications for fire systems designers. The project was completed upon the development and endorsement of a diploma and graduate vocational certificate.
The national industry associations - National Fire Industry Association (NFIA) and Fire Protection Association, Australia (FPAA) played an instrumental role in initiating the project and providing in-depth technical input in the developmental process.
CPSISC attracted additional funding from the Commonwealth Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations to develop resources to help support the implementation of these new qualifications.
The resources support the delivery of CPC505098 Diploma of Fire Systems Design. The resources cover most of the ‘native’ units in the diploma and have been developed using a cluster approach and are focussed on workplace assessment and learning for people already in the industry but can be adapted to other delivery modes. There are five clusters with each having a:
¨ Workplace Skill Development Guide
¨ Assessment Guide.
The Workplace Skill Development Guides have been designed to support the self-directed development of underpinning or required knowledge and the completion of practical workplace projects to embed the candidate’s knowledge and skills; and build true competence.
The Assessment Guides provide tools for the trained assessor to collect robust evidence of the candidate’s competence. Each Guide aids the collection of multiple forms of evidence (including completion of the activities and projects contained within the Workplace Skill Development Guides).
The resources include:
¨ An Assessment Guide and a Workplace Skill Development Guide for “Certifying Fire Suppression Systems”
¨ An Assessment Guide and a Workplace Skill Development Guide for “Preparing for the Fire
System Design Task”
¨ An Assessment Guide and a Workplace Skill Development Guide for “Designing Detection
and Warning Systems”
¨ An Assessment Guide and a Workplace Skill Development Guide “Designing Sprinkler Systems”
¨ An Employer’s Guide
¨ A Facilitator’s Guide
