‘Pathfinder’ Project: Developing and Promoting Apprenticeships in the Spatial Information Industry
The Construction and Property Services Industry Skills Council (CPSISC) has received funding from the Department of Education, Science and Training (DEST) to assist the Spatial Information industry address skill shortages and attract young people to the industry particularly through the introduction of a range of Australian Apprenticeships based on newly developed and nationally endorsed qualifications:
•
Certificate III in Spatial Information Services
•
Certificate IV in Spatial Information Services
•
Certificate IV in Surveying
•
Diploma of Spatial Information Services
•
Diploma of Surveying
The project is designed to build the long term capacity of the Spatial Information industry and meet the challenges of a new, emerging and growing industry that is a major player in the development of the nation’s economy. The Spatial Information industry brings sophisticated skills and technology to major challenges facing the country such as the management of the nation’s water systems, the exploration of new mining operations and the effective management of land resources. It is the recognition of the strategic importance of the industry that is driving governments around the world to invest in the skilling of the workforce and the development of policy that will ensure the viability and growth of the industry.
CPSISC is aware that making Australian Apprenticeships available is only the beginning of the challenge. The ‘Pathfinder’ project will also work to ensure the nation’s Registered Training Organisations are familiar with the Spatial Information industry and skilled at delivering training and assessment services that meet the industry’s needs.
The final, and most important, piece of the jigsaw is to develop tools and materials that can be used to inform employers and potential employees of the value of Spatial Information Services (SIS) Australian Apprenticeships – and to stimulate take-up of qualifications and employment in this exciting industry.
The project will be run through to JUNE 2008. For more information contact the Project Manager, David Magee on 07 3899 311, or email: david.magee@cpsisc.com.au
Providing Feedback to Communication and Information Tools
Your feedback regarding the draft tools will assist with the development and refinement of these (and future) communication materials that are designed to promote the benefits of Australian Apprenticeships and career pathways within the Spatial Information industry to RTOs, employers and prospective new entrants.
In this first phase of development the focus is on getting the content right. The content will ultimately be made available in varying formats. So, in providing feedback please be less concerned about the ‘look’ and format and more concerned about the content and ‘pitch’
The tools will also be added to over time so please bookmark this page and return to check for new additions .
