Asset Security Training Package Review

The redevelopment of the PRS03 Asset Security Training Package into the new Security sector in CPP07 Property Services Training Package has been completed. The following industry sectors are covered:

  • security operations
  • investigative services
  • security and risk management
  • biometrics
  • technical security.

The documentation for the redeveloped Security sector units of competency and qualifications were lodged with the Department of Education, Science and Training (DEST) in September 2007. The draft Training Package has been through the State and Territory Training Authorities Evaluation Teleconference. The endorsement submission is proceeding to the National Quality Council.

Summary of Proposed Changes

The changes proposed build on the experience of utilising PRS03 Asset Security and the changing environment in which the security industry now operates. The changes to the units of competency and qualifications tend to be incremental rather than reflecting a radical overhaul. A number of skills sets have been included in the Training Package. The Property Services Training Package will include mapping tables showing the relationship between the new qualifications and units of competency and those in PRS03 Asset Security. A summary of the propsed changes is available.

Background

A Steering Committee comprising a broad range of industry personnel, industry associations, regulators, registered training organisations and state and territory training authorities was formed to guide the project.

A series of national consultation workshops was conducted during November and December 2006. These workshops provided an opportunity for participants to provide feedback on a range of areas within the Training Package including individual units of competency and qualifications.

In addition, a number of Specialist Reference Groups (SRG) were established for industry stakeholders with expertise in the following critical areas:

  • Investigative Services
  • Technical Security
  • Monitoring/Control Room Functions
  • Cash-in-Transit
  • Baggage and Screening
  • Crowd Control
  • Security and Risk Management
  • Licensing.

The objective of the SRG process was to obtain detailed feedback on units and qualifications in these areas.
