Continuous Improvement Project
Introduction
A project is underway to enhance the use of CPC08 Construction, Plumbing and Services Integrated Framework Training Package for defining occupational and other licensing competency requirements.
Why is the project important?
During the review of the three Construction and Plumbing and Services Training Packages and integrating them into a single framework it was recognised that national licensing of construction and plumbing work varies considerably across the State and Territory regulatory jurisdictions. In some cases review feedback was received indicating that construction work below trade level was licensed but not matched by qualifications in the Packages. This indicated a need to fully scope the range of licensing categories and competency requirements currently in place to determine how the CPC08 Training Package could be better aligned with applicable regulatory regimes.
The 3 July 2008 COAG decision to instigate a national trade licensing system gives added importance to this work.
Project Outcomes
The project will produce a comprehensive report of the relevant current licensing categories in each State and Territory and the competency requirements in each case. The analysis will show where commonalities can and should be met by new/amended qualifications or identified groups of competencies in the Training Package.
The Project Process
The project is now underway and it is scheduled for completion in July 2009.
