PRM04 Asset Maintenance Review

THE REDEVELOPMENT OF PRM04 ASSET MAINTENANCE TRAINING PACKAGE INDUSTRY SECTORS FOR INTEGRATION INTO CPP07 PROPERTY SERVICES TRAINING PACKAGE

Introduction

A project is underway to redevelop the current PRM04 Asset Maintenance Training Package and integrate it into the CPP07 Property Services Training Package.

The PRM04 Asset Maintenance Training Package currently supports a number of quite distinct sectors:

o         Cleaning Operations

o         Pest Management

o         Waste Management

o         Carpet Cleaning

o         Fire Protection Equipment

o         Fire Safety Systems Inspection

While there will be common interests across the sectors, for example reflecting the need to work in environmentally sustainable and ‘green’ ways, each sector will also have unique issues and needs. The project team will work to ensure each sector is engaged and has the opportunity to contribute.

Why is the project important?

National Training Packages are an important tool for industry and are used to drive the awarding of national qualifications. The qualifications and the units of competency they contain are also used to support apprenticeships.

Industries change and new issues, technologies and work practices require a review of the qualifications that are designed to reflect current work functions and the skills and knowledge needed for their effective performance in the workplace.

Project Outcomes

The major deliverables of this project are a revised qualifications framework for each of the participating industry sectors supported by nationally consistent units of competency. The redeveloped sectors will be submitted for endorsement together as an extension to CPP07 Property Services Training Package. The redevelopment process requires that qualifications and units of competency are presented in the current national format and to a specified standard. All units and qualifications will be reformatted and this also presents an opportunity for general editing to occur.

Scoping & Strategy Report

Following the completion of the Workplace Functional Analyses and the national round of workshops a ‘Scoping and Strategy’ report was prepared that will guide the development of draft units of competency and qualifications.

The Scoping & Strategy report outlines the key findings of the consultation stages and also ‘scopes’ or outlines the approach that will be undertaken to review or develop new units of competency and enhance qualifications. The development process will be informed by additional input as the technical writers proceed and there may be further refinement during the process.

The Scoping & Strategy report has been considered and reviewed by the Project Steering Committee and was made available for comment until 30th January 2009.

The Project Status

The development work has been completed. National workshops were conducted and first drafts of the units and qualifications were posted on this website. Revised draft units and qualifications were posted for validation. Editing is well underway. It is expected that the redeveloped sectors will be submitted to the State Training Authorities (STAs) in March 2011 as part of the endorsement process.
