Scoping Project for ‘DRAFTING’ INDUSTRY SECTOR
SCOPING OF THE NEED AND SUPPORT FOR NATIONAL COMPETENCY BASED QUALIFICATION FOR THE ‘DRAFTING’ INDUSTRY SECTOR WITHIN THE CPSISC INDUSTRY COVERAGE
The Construction and Property Services Industry Skills Council (CPSISC) is undertaking a scoping of the need and support for a national competency based qualification for the ‘drafting’ industry sector within its coverage which has been supported by the Construction and Property Services Industry Advisory Committees (IACs).
This scoping project is a result of another project which CPSISC is undertaking to develop national competency based qualifications for building designers. There are currently accredited courses for architectural drafting at the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) level IV – however there is no national competency based qualification available.
It has also been indicated by some industry participants that ‘drafting’ skills may be required across a wider industry sector than just architectural drafting. This could include other sectors within the CPSISC portfolio such as plumbing or even be cross-industry such as marine, engineering and/or civil construction.
The scoping report will provide advice on:
· current entry points to the industry and career pathways
· current practices for training, recognition or accreditation in the industry
· current regulatory arrangements by jurisdiction
· the scope of a proposed national qualification including confirming the AQF level
· relationships with existing national qualifications and sources of imported units from other Training Packages
· support for a national qualification from key stakeholders including regulators.
Ms Georgie Cane, Performance Growth has been awarded a contract to conduct this scoping and providing advice to the IACs.
It is expected the report will be delivered mid May 2011.
