Development of Post Tensioning Qualification Scoping Project

CPC08 Proposed new qualification – Certificate III in Post-tensioning

The Construction and Property Services Industry Skills Council (CPSISC), through its continuous improvement process, is undertaking a project to scope the need for the development of a separate ‘post-tensioning’ qualification after representations from industry indicating that such a qualification is needed to reflect current industry practices.

Background:

The Post-Tensioning Institute of Australia Limited (PITA) contacted CPSISC in January 2011 seeking assistance to address an identified in the current CPC08 Construction, Plumbing and Services Training Package. The PITA requested, that due to the specialised, high risk activity undertaken by post-tensioning operators that consideration be given to the development of a standalone qualification.

The PITA have the support of the post-tensioning industry throughout Australia and believe that the industry would be better served by increasing the knowledge base of post-tensioning operatives by expanding on the existing three units currently included in the CPC31108 Certificate III in Steel Fixing.

This continuous improvement issue was presented to the CPSISC Construction Industry Skills Council (CIAC) for consideration. The CIAC recommended that a scoping of the skill needs of the post-tensioning sector be undertaken. The findings of the scoping report would then be considered by the CIAC in making decisions on future actions for the post-tensioning industry.
