National Skills Week - Rachel Keiley

Winning this award qualified me as the finalist to compete for the Australian Apprentice of the Year. So, off I went to Darwin, where I undertook a professional development week and faced yet another judging panel. National Skills Week will be held 1 – 8 October 2011 to provide Australians with information about skills training. It will assist all Australians to gain a greater understanding of the opportunities within the skills industries and how they contribute to a successful, modern economy. Financial information for 2010 for Australia’s public vocational education and training (VET) system has been released by the National Centre for Vocational Education Research (NCVER).
Schools in disadvantaged communities or with a large number of students from lower socio-economic backgrounds will receive priority funding under the next round of Trade Training Centres (TTCs), Minister for School Education Peter Garrett said today.

The National Centre for Vocational Education Research has released the Australian apprentice and trainee statistics for the March quarter 2011. In total there were 458 900 apprentices and trainees in-training as at the end of March 2011, an increase of 5.
