Biometrics is the automated measuring of one or more physcial characteristics or personal behavioural traits of a person (such as a fingerprint or face). The ultimate purpose of biometrics is to be able to distinguish one person exclusively from all others.
A set of competency standards covering biometrics have been developed for incorporation into the PRS03 Asset Security Training Package.
These new biometric units will represent for the first time, the outcomes and critical functions and activities required to assess, implement and monitor biometric systems within a security operations context.
A listing of the draft units and their AQF alignment is summarised below.

The new units will be incorporated within existing PRS03 qualifications as electives. In addition, a skill set focusing on biometrics consulting and advice will complement the qualifications by providing a set of strategic biometrics skills to cover the key functions required for the planning, installation and management of biometrics systems across the AQF 4/5 levels.
It is expected that these units will be endorsed by December 2006. For more information on the project please contact Kristen Sydney via email kristen.sydney@cpsisc.com.au or phone 02 6253 0002.
