BIM Economic Study: Industry Survey "Building Information Modelling (BIM) is an intelligent modelling technology and associated set of design processes, that is being adopted widely within the construction industry both in Australia and worldwide. BIM is generally defined as "a modelling technology and associated set of processes to produce, communicate and analyse building models². A group of six Australian industry sponsors and the Department of Innovation, Industry, Science and Research (DIISR) have commissioned buildingSMART to conduct a survey of current uptake and usage levels of BIM in Australia, as part of a BIM Economic Study. The survey will also support a current pilot study on BIM in Construction Education being carried out at the University of South Australia (UniSA). At present there is a lack of quantitative and qualitative evidence to support the value proposition of BIM in Australia, and this is one of the factors hampering its uptake. Some of the questions this survey aims to answer are: Q What costs and benefits are faced by different stakeholders, such as industry and government? Q What is the impact of the adoption of BIM on the Australian economy as a whole and on particular industries? Q What impact will/should the adoption of BIM have on built environment education courses? To complete the survey or for more information see http://buildingsmart.org.au/ The survey commences on Thursday 8th and last submissions will close on 23 July 2010. CQR Pty Ltd |
