Industry Skills Councils  

The 11 national Industry Skills Councils (ISCs) cover the skills needs of most Australian industry. In general terms these organisations work to involve industry with the development of nationally applicable vocational education and training.

ISCs are privately registered companies run by industry-based boards of directors, but whose funding is provided substantially by the Australian Government through the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations.

Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations
The Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations site provides information about Australian Government employement, education, training and youth affairs services and policies.

STATE/TERRITORY

Department of Education and Training (NSW)
The NSW Department of Education and Training delivers high quality education and training services from early childhood education through to post-compulsory education and training. The Department meets the learning needs of children, young people and adults, and addresses training needs in industry.

Department of Further Education, Employment, Science and Technology (SA)
The Department of Further Education, Employment, Science and Technology (DFEEST) reflects and supports the South Australian Government’s priorities of sustaining a vibrant economy and socially inclusive community by developing the State’s workforce, skills base and life long learning opportunities.

Department of Employment and Training (Qld)
The Queensland Department of Employment and Training provides Queenslanders with services in employment, training, technical and further education and youth affairs.

Department of Employment, Education and Training (NT)
This department is responsible for education, employment, training and NT Worksafe. DEET works with the community to build and protect the Territory workforce, to improve educational outcomes for all Territory students and to provide safe working and learning environments.

Department of Education and Training (WA)
The Department of Education and Training provides comprehensive school education for more than 250,000 students in 770 schools spread across Australia’s largest state.

Skills Victoria  
The Skills Victoria website provides information on education and training options to the community including apprentices, trainees, students, teachers, trainers, businesses and employers. Skills Tasmania  
Skills Tasmania is responsible for planning, purchasing and supporting the delivery of vocational education and training services for Tasmania; the development of policy advice for Post-Compulsory Education and Training; promotion of industry investment in training; and the development, regulation and administration of the post-compulsory education and training system in Tasmania.

Training and Adult Education (ACT)
The Training and Adult Education Branch manages the vocational education and training system in the ACT in response to national initiatives and local priorities.

Licensing Line News is Australia's leading source of information on occupational licensing and its intersection with vocational education and training.

Skills Initiative
The Federal Government continues to address industry skill needs through a variety of mechanisms and has developed the National Skills Shortages Strategy to build on existing initiatives to provide a more comprehensive approach to addressing skills needs.

Flexible Learning Framework
The Australian Flexible Learning Framework is a five year national program to create and share knowledge about flexible learning and to support its take-up in vocational education and training.

National Training Information Service
The National Training Information Service has been developed by ANTA to provide access to current and emerging training market information and products in vocational education and training. Currently, the NTIS comprises a database of VET accredited courses, competency standards, Training Packages and training providers and text information on a range of complementary issues.

New Apprenticeships Training Information Service
New Apprenticeships combine practical work with structured training and lead to nationally recognised qualifications. In some cases, students can even begin a New Apprenticeship while still at school. A New Apprenticeships is also an excellent option for students who want to study and work in their local area.

National Centre for Vocational Education Research (NCVER)
The National Centre for Vocational Education Research (NCVER) is Australia's principal provider of vocational education and training (VET) research and statistics.

Worldskills Australia
WorldSkills Australia (WSA) is a national, not-for-profit organisation (established since 1981) that provides young Australians aged 23 and under the opportunity to gain new skills, compete against their peers in their chosen trade and fast track their skills and career development.

National and State/Territory IABs (Industry Advisory Bodies) - CAPS Network

Also called industry training advisory boards, the State / Territory IABs are organisations (usually an incorporated association or company) recognised as representing a particular industry and providing advice to government on the vocational education and training needs of that industry. There were both national and State and Territory industry training advisory bodies, but the national bodies have been reconstituted as Skills Councils, and the term IAB now refers to the State / Territory bodies only.
