What are Support Materials?

Training Package support materials are training and assessment resources that support delivery of endorsed Training Packages. These resources are strategies and tools used by trainers and learners and include text books, guides, CD/videos, online flexible delivery, printed and other media types that support teaching, learning and assessment. Support materials can relate to single or multiple units of competency, an industry sector, a qualification or the whole Training Package.

Training Package support materials are produced by CPSISC as well as a range of stakeholders such as RTOs, individual trainers and assessors, private and commercial developers and government agencies. Support materials must be evaluated by a Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR) approved quality assurance consultant against prescribed quality principles.  In the past, support materials that met the quality principles were eligible for ‘noting’ by the National Skills Standards Council (NSSC). Once noted, they carried the DEEWR official noted tick logo:

This quality assurance system for support materials was replaced in 2010 with a trial quality assurance process.  The tick logo still represents support materials which have been through a quality process.

CPSISC has developed support materials for its Training Packages including CPP07 and CPC08, as well as a number of generic resources to help trainers and assessors to support learners with workplace communication/literacy issues. In addition, a feature of the CPSISC website is an online Trainer and Assessor Resource Centre which provides guidance, tools and templates to assist RTOs to create their own support materials which are specifically tailored to meet the individual needs of learners and enterprises.  You can visit the Resource Centre via the CPSISC home page (cpsisc.staging.cibis.net.au).
