The Property Services Industry employs more than 890,000 workers in full and part-time positions ranging
from entry level operational job roles to management and specialist technical occupations.
There are property related careers in real estate, stock and station agencies, business broking and property services. Property operations and development includes commercial property management of one or more properties for private investors or public sector owners, management of real estate development or redevelopment opportunities, asset, community and strata management.
The Spatial Information Services Sector is expanding particularly in areas such as surveying (hydrographic, engineering, aerial, mine, cadastral, topographic, geodetic) and cartography.
The Security Sector of property services is growing exponentially and covers investigative services, security operations such as guarding, crowd control, control room operations and dog handling plus higher level security and risk management services. The fastest growing sector is technical security that includes installing electronic alarm systems and providing security monitoring services.
The Access Consulting Sector is also growing, providing expert advice to government, the building industry, designers, owners and managers of buildings and facilities on the provision of access for people with disabilities. The sector has developed in response to initiatives by all Australian governments to implement anti-discrimination legislation concerning people with a disability.
Asset maintenance is another major property services sector and covers general cleaning in residential and commercial sites, specialist carpet cleaning, installing, inspecting and maintaining fire protection equipment and fire safety systems plus pest management and waste management services.
Certain occupations in real estate, security, fire protection and pest management services are regulated and require licensing. The training specifications in CPP07 Property Services Training Package take full account of regulator requirements. In all sectors, these industries show strong growth projections and a demand for not just additional personnel but more highly skilled workers in most job roles.
