Using CPP07 in the FPE Sector

The CPP07 Property Services Training Package is the endorsed benchmark which relates units of competency to national qualifications, and provides guidelines for assessment for the Fire Protection Equipment (FPE) Sector. Training Packages are developed by industry to meet current and emerging skills needs. They enable RTOs to develop flexible training programs to meet particular enterprise, regional or individual training needs, while maintaining the core integrity of a national qualification.

The first industry competency standards for portable fire equipment service personnel were endorsed and made available through Australian Standards in 1996.  Following the introduction of the Training Package concept, qualifications and units of competency for the Portable Fire Equipment Service Sector were endorsed in December 1998 as part of the PRM98 Asset Maintenance Training Package.  A review and revision of PRM98 resulted in the PRM04 Asset Maintenance Training Package which was endorsed in February 2004.  It included qualifications and units of competency for the following industry sectors of the fire protection industry:

§          Fire protection equipment sector

§          Fire safety systems inspection sector.

The PRM04 Training Package has recently been revised and integrated into the CPP07 Training Package.  The above industry sectors have been redeveloped as the FPE Sector in the CPP07 Training Package in recognition of industry practice and to facilitate greater flexibility and relevance with regard to training and assessment.  The processes of development and review which have been undertaken since 1996 have ensured the qualifications and units of competency for the FPE Sector remain relevant and provide effective coverage of the sector's current and emerging skill needs.
