Biometrics in the security industry involves systems that can uniquely identify people based on a variety of human characteristics. The most commonly used are fingerprints, face recognition, DNA, hand and palm geometry and iris recognition. The systems can also include sensory markers such as voice, gait and scent. These can be used in any situation where a high degree of assurance is needed in identity, such as contact with extremely toxic substances, border influx control or in corrections and criminal identification.
