Career Pathways for Security Operations Managers
People often come to the first line of management in an electronic security company after working for a few years in a monitoring centre, a control room or in the technical or sales consultancy field. This experience gives them a strong appreciation of the industry and how it works.
They could also bring experience from another company in the industry or from a related industry or occupation. Some may come to a position of responsibility in electronic security after working in the guarding side of security or in call centres.

Holding one of the relevant qualifications prior to employment is certainly an advantage, but people already in these positions often complete qualifications while they are working as a way of improving their performance.
People in the first line of management could look forward to the relatively limited number of senior business management roles in electronic security companies, or they may take their experience to another company for advancement. It is also reasonably common for people with these backgrounds to launch their own small business. There are now thousands of companies in Australia competing in some aspect of the electronic security industry.
