Carol
Cables
  • You are responsible for managing the performance of a monitoring centre, and within set protocols, make judgments about how to respond to all alarms received by the centre. You are dealing with clients in what are often stressful situations, so you must have the skills to negotiate and defuse conflict situations.
  • As leader, coach and mentor you set the standard for all operators. You should always be available to provide them with assistance in decision making, and you need to communicate in a clear and concise manner and be sensitive to different social and cultural considerations.
  • You are dealing with highly sophisticated computer monitoring equipment which has to function constantly, so you need to be a troubleshooter as well as an expert operator. You are expected to monitor your own performance, seek feedback and develop strategies to improve both personal and team performance.
  • You are also responsible for reporting to management on monitoring centre operations and incidents, so you need accurate and concise writing skills.
