  • In the event of an emergency, you need to report to senior staff, remain calm and continue to communicate effectively. You must be decisive and assertive in situations where a quick response is required and you are directing others. An ability to focus, concentrate and give attention to detail is absolutely essential.
  • You need literacy and communication skills sufficient to be able to read and interpret procedures, guidelines and instructions, and to accurately record and report on incidents.
  • As a team leader you are expected to model responsible behaviour, to provide advice, make decisions based on evidence and good judgment. You are also responsible for coaching, mentoring and providing feedback to team members on their performance.
  • You need the technical skills to work with electronic equipment and computer software.
  • You need problem solving skills to determine the most appropriate response to an incident and be able to focus on constructively resolving conflict in any situation that arises. You must also be prepared to use lawful defensive means to protect yourself and others.
  • You will be dealing with customers a great deal, so your customer service, verbal communication and inter-personal skills are most important.
  • You will be expected to respond to changing circumstances, to monitor your own performance and contribute ideas on how to improve work processes.
