Catherine has been involved with the Construction and Property Services Industry Skills Council (CPSISC) and Skills Oz in its various iterations since its inception in the early nineties, providing support as the external accountant.

“Through my years of involvement with CPSISC and Skills Oz, I have gained an understanding of the valuable contribution that an organisation such as Skills Oz has made to the construction and property sectors.

“We have the capacity to provide a whole of industry perspective to the current and future workforce needs of industry and support the continuous improvement of education and training for the sector.”

Catherine began her career providing secretarial support before moving through to more complex senior management and finance roles in the private sector. She has been a Chief Financial Officer/Company Secretary for industry advocacy organisations since the 1980s.

Starting with the Real Estate Institute of Australia, to her current role with the Australian Petroleum Production and Exploration Association (where she has been Company Secretary and Director Corporate Services for 24 years), Catherine has been supporting the construction and property services sector for most of her professional life.

From 2005 to 2017, she was on the board of a nonprofit community-based organisation providing whole of life respite care to children, young people and adults with disabilities, people with mental illness and frail older people, serving as treasurer for ten years.

Catherine moved to Canberra from Sydney in 1982 when her husband’s company was part of the consortium that built the new parliament house.

“What a fantastic project to be involved in. Prince Charles and the late Princess Diana were at the official opening, so it was a very exciting time and an incredible project to observe in terms of its significance and also the design and construction.”

Catherine is a keen skier, learning the tricks of the trade on the Thredbo ski slopes.

“If you can ski in Australia, then you can ski anywhere in the world, so they say.  My husband and I head over to Banff and Marmot Basin in Alberta, Canada for some skiing and brutal winter weather as often as possible. Heavens know why we do that – but we love it!”.

Santa Monica beach and Los Angeles are also favourite locations, providing “R&R” and occasional “star spotting” and rubbing shoulders with celebrities.  One trip saw them having breakfast with Arnold Schwarzenegger at the Fairmont Hotel Miramar Santa Monica each morning for a week!

“He was just a couple of tables down from us, so close enough!”

Catherine is a Fellow of the Institute of Public Accountants.
